What are the best WordPress translation plugins for a successful multilingual website? Well, that’s why you are here and by the time you finish reading this post, you will know the best WordPress translation plugins you can use for your successful blog or website.

I have been using a WordPress translation plugin (name withheld for now) for more than 30 days now and this post is a review or case study or proof that using translation plugins works.

I would be posting real proof and evidence that using a translation plugin on your blog will give you more traffic, income and make you an expert in your field.

Types of Website Translation

1. Automatic method

I would recommend this because it’s so easy to do. The translation process is done automatically for you and it’s way cheaper than the manual method.

This is where WordPress translation plugins come to play because they help you translate your website turning your website content to international web content that can be consumed in different languages.

2. Manual method

This method of translating your website is probably for those perfectionists or those without budgets like big multi-billion-dollar businesses.

For small blogs and websites, I wouldn’t recommend this method for you because you have a budget and we are looking for the best translation plugin within our budget.

Why you need a WordPress Translation Plugin

WordPress translation plugins should offer you these 3 things:

  1. Your blog gets more organic traffic
  2. Your blog/website will make more money
  3. You would be an expert

Reason 1: Your blog gets more organic traffic

The very first thing a translation plugin should for you is to increase your website’s organic traffic.

Check out my last 30 days traffic report (Source: Google Analytics).

From the last 30 days report from Google Analytics, you can see that Nairatips got 165,969-page views.

Now let’s compare the last 30 days vs the last 60 days. That’s the last 30 days using a WordPress translation plugin vs the last 60 days when I wasn’t using the translation plugin.

wordpress translation plugin increasing my traffic last 30 days comparison

You can see proof that my overall blog traffic increased by 11.70% and a bunch of other useful stats like;

  • Users increased by 10.88%
  • The number of new users/visitors to this blog increased by 11.01%
  • We also saw an overall increase in the number of Sessions by a whopping 9.77%
  • Our bounce rate also reduced drastically by -27.12% which is a good thing because it shows more people choose to stick around longer than before. (psst, maybe because they could know read my content in their native languages).

Reason 2: Your blog or online business makes more money

I don’t need to tell you that more traffic = more money because you have now broken into other languages and markets.

Your blog content keeps ranking on search engines pages in different languages or people can now finally understand what you are trying to sell to them because they can now read it in their old native language.

If you were making money from people living in the United States, United Kingdom, and other English speaking countries, after you install a WordPress translation plugin, you should start expecting income from other countries that speak different languages because now they see your content in their native language and they are able to understand it.

Check my full income report to see how my blog’s income increased in just 30 days.

I was able to get more money from my blog from other countries and this simple screenshot is enough proof (Source: PayPal Top Customers by Countries).

paypal countries

Does the above PayPal image show that I got a ton of money from countries that their main languages aren’t English and is it a coincidence that I got money from these countries the same 30 days I translated my blog to different languages? No, I don’t think so.

And this brings us to the third reason you should translate your blog or website.

Reason 3: You would be an expert

Let me ask you a question: What do you call someone that can teach you skill in one language? – A teacher

What do you call someone that can teach you different skills in different languages – An expert.

Your visitors can now read and understand your content. They can now relate with you are selling and they ultimately would start seeing you as an expert that they could get knowledge and information from in their native languages.

I’m sure in minds of your readers, they would be like “the owner of this blog must be really smart” because they were able to read and understand your content in their native tongue.

The Results: You start getting tons of new comments in different languages and sometimes I reply to those comment by translating them first to English then I reply.

Best 6 WordPress Translation Plugins for a Successful Multilingual Website?

  1. Weglot
  2. Google Website Translator
  3. WPML
  4. TranslatePress
  5. Polylang
  6. MultilingualPress

1. Weglot

translate wordpress

Weglot is an automatic and manual WordPress translation plugin that translates your entire website to different languages of your choice.

Their automatic translation is good and easy to understand. The sentences are constructed neatly and nicely woven together and it makes sense to read. And you can easily edit and manage translations with their editing tools (including a front-end visual editor).

They use the best practices for Multilingual SEO which means your website content ranks globally which increases your organic traffic across different languages and countries.

Your translated contents are indexed faster making them appear across all search engines networks like Google, Bing or Yahoo and they support more than 100 languages.

The WordPress translation plugin – Weglot is done easily and professionally within minutes.

They have a rock solid reputation in the WordPress community with a 4.9/5.0 rating and over 20,000 active WordPress installs making it the best way to translate a website.

Read my honest review of Weglot to see why they are the best WordPress translation plugin for your website, blog or online business.

No matter what type of blog you have, it’s almost guaranteed that you would make more money from it as soon as you decide to translate your site using Weglot.

2. Google Website Translator

Google Website Translator

I can’t remember how many times I used the Google Translate tool to translate blog comments and replies. It was so fast and free to use. Now imagine you can use all that translation power directly on your blog as a plugin.

That’s what Google Website Translate plugin is, the power of Google Translate in a plugin.

This makes the number 2 spot because it’s fast, free and has Google behind it.

Your website can be translated into 100 languages with this free plugin but stick to 1 or 2 language translations so you can get a feel of how multilingual SEO works and how it affects your site and its contents.

3. WPML

wpml wordpress translation plugin

WPML is a popular WordPress translation plugin that just cost $29 to translate a website but I recommend the $79 Multilingual CMS package because with that you have the complete solution to Multilingual WordPress.

This plugin is compatible with your favorite themes and plugins like Yoast SEO, Contact Form 7, Elementor, Woo Commerce and so on.

They work for eCommerce websites too. You can easily turn your eCommerce website to a Multilingual eCommerce website which will surely bring you more sales and leads.

4. TranslatePress

translatepress

This is a WordPress translation plugin that anyone can use or at least that’s what they say on their homepage.

They have positioned themselves as the better way of translating your website directly from the frontend and that’s cool but that would only be effective if you hire a personal translator to help check and increase the translation quality.

TranslatePress supports 220 languages which are a lot and I personally think you wouldn’t need all to use all 220 languages at once on your website or blog.

5. Polylang

Polylang translation plugin for wordpress

Polylang is another free WordPress translation plugin that uses the automatic translation method turning your website to either a bilingual or multilingual WordPress site.

You can translate posts, pages, categories to as many languages as you want and if you also want to get more professional translations you can easily integrate Polylang with Lingotek Translation.

Polylang free version doesn’t work with WooCommerce plugin but you can use it with Polylang Premium.

Polylang has a 4.7 rating in the WordPress community with over 400,000 actual installs.

They support migration from WPML translation plugin and they have a separate plugin for that.

6. MultilingualPress

multilingual press

This is the most expensive WordPress translation plugin on this list. Starting at $199 for a single site.

I feel MultilingualPress would fit multi-billion dollar companies, big established websites, bloggers but for the average joe, it would rip a hole in your wallet.

They have some nice features that I like, for example, Gutenberg support, it’s powered by PHP7, it is optimized for WooCommerce and Multilingual Yoast SEO Sync.

They claim to be the perfect multilingual solution and starting at $199, they should be.

So, which is the Best WordPress Translation Plugin?

I can’t say for sure because each translation plugin for WordPress has its own unique selling proposition that makes it different from the rest.

I can recommend a few like Weglot and Google Website Translator.

If you want to translate your website easily without stress to your hosting or coding knowledge, use Weglot.

If you want a free yet powerful translation for WordPress, use Google Website Translator.

If you have any questions about any of the translation plugins mentioned in this post, please leave a comment below or if you have other suggestion may be based on your personal use and experience, we would appreciate any suggestion you might have.
