3 Underrepresented Blog Niches To Embrace Today

Some blog niches are underserved with less competition and as a new blogger, you can capitalize on this, create a niche site and become the go-to authority in your niche.

The internet is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is.

to start making money blogging.

I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to the internet.

This slightly altered quote from Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” is perhaps the best description of the internet today.

In 2011, there were about 500,000 data centers in the world, and their number has grown a lot ever since (today, there are close to 400 hyper-scale data centers in the world, running services like Google’s Search or Amazon’s AWS). And there are hundreds of millions of websites, with around 400 million blogs among them.

To a newbie blogger, this may sound like a reason to despair: pretty much everything that can be covered has been covered already. This is not exactly true, though.

3 Blog Niches To Embrace Today

The majority of blogs focus on topics that generate the bulk of affiliate sales, blogging income and ad revenue, leaving some blog niches underrepresented online – like the ones below.

1. The Gambling Industry

If your first reaction to this headline was “but wait, aren’t there N million gambling blogs already”, take a look at the majority of these websites and think again.

The vast majority of gambling-related blogs and websites are filled with nothing but generic articles about gambling and affiliate links, nothing more.

There are just a handful of blogs and websites that actually cover the industry itself, from legal matters and regulations to infrastructure, payments, online slot software providers, and so on.

2. Niche Music Festivals

Sziget Festival is Hungary’s largest and most visited music festival. It is extensively covered in the news by the mainstream media, and it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the country’s capital each year.

There is another major festival in the country that most people haven’t even heard about – O.Z.O.R.A., the psychedelic tribal gathering that attracts more than 50,000 visitors each year. It’s a small event compared to Sziget but it’s one of the biggest in its own genre – psytrance.

There are major events around the world in musical genres that are not mainstream and they are heavily underrepresented in the press and online. Covering some of these will likely attract a dedicated following to your blog.

3. Non-IT startups

I know, the internet is perhaps the hottest topic out there, with new devices to browse it and new services to use emerging almost every week.

There is, in turn, an entire world of startups out there that don’t try to improve our digital life, that don’t try to reinvent another usual thing by adding an internet-connected smart sensor to it, that have pretty much nothing to do with social networks, ride-hailing, online privacy, and other hot topics.

There are startups that try to improve our lives without connecting everything to the internet in areas like pharmaceuticals, food, materials and life sciences, and there are others that try to improve the way we work through ergonomics, manufacturing processes, industrial robotics, and such other areas that are seriously underrepresented in today’s connected world.
